Basic Information:

  • Born in Amman, Jordan, Dr. Zou’bi holds degrees in civil engineering and science policy from the University of Brighton, Loughborough University (UK), and the University of Malaya (Malaysia). His academic background spans engineering, sustainability, and science diplomacy.
  • He currently serves as Science Advisor to the InterAction Council (IAC), a global think tank of former world leaders. He was previously Director General of the Islamic World Academy of Sciences (IAS), where he played a pivotal role in expanding its international presence. Since 2024, he has served as Vice Chair and Board Member of ARSCO (Arab Science and Community Organization, based in Qatar). He is also a visiting professor at UCSI University and the University of Malaya.

  • Author of over 60 research papers; editor or co-editor of more than 20 books on science, higher education, and development
  • Contributor to UNESCO’s flagship Science Reports (2010, 2015, 2020); co-authored the Arab region chapter that foresaw the socio-political fragility preceding the Arab Spring

  • Dr. Zou’bi is a member of several international bodies, including the New York Academy of Sciences, the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS), and the UNESCO Centre for South-South Cooperation in Science and Technology. He is a founding board member of the World Sustainability Forum (Santa Fe, USA) and has served on the Templeton Prize jury since 2018. He is widely recognized for his efforts in fostering intercultural dialogue and advancing the global science-for-society agenda.
